I’ve had a lot of questions at the clinic this week on what to do about brown spots. That’s when I realized a lot has happened in the 2 years since I’ve written about how to remove them.
Back in the day, we relied heavily on hydroquinone 4% to remove hyperpigmentation. Yes, it was controversial, but it was the only thing that really worked. Today, we approach the treatment of hyperpigmentation with education, prevention then treatment versus the long standing treatment and then more treatment manner.
Here’s what we know now –
You MUST wear SPF 30 or higher every single day. This is non-negotiable for removing brown spots. If you don’t use it, you won’t get rid of them. So find one you can embrace every morning like that cup of coffee!
Next, we treat the skin like the professionals do (and I don’t mean skin care professionals). Koreans have been super serious about spot-less, dewy skin forever! All you have to do is compare their choice of swimwear to ours.
Here are 5 Korean brightening products that will help eliminate your brown spots. Remember, this doesn’t happen overnight. It takes dedication to a routine of daily sun protection (SPF 30 or higher) and a product that will gently exfoliate your skin while calming the cells that make hyperpigmentation. Think of it as weight loss. You have to cut calories and workout to get rid of excess weight. Once you do, you cannot go back to your old ways. It is the same with skin care. Stick to the plan – sun protection then brightening/lightening product.
