Finding the right product to avoid sun damage is kind of like choosing the best superhero – some will protect you while others protect and help you. Such is the case with sunscreen and BB creams. They both help to protect you from sun damage, but BB cream also corrects issues such as uneven skin tone and texture.
However, they both have their downsides. Sunscreens can sometimes feel heavy and don’t always look great under makeup. BB creams usually have a lower SPF than the recommend minimum of 30.
The way I look at it is if you are going to be exposed to light (inside or out) for most of the day then go for a sunscreen that will protect you. If you’re going out in the later afternoon or early evening then it’s safe to go with a BB cream.
Below are 6 of my favorite sunscreens and BB creams that look great with or without makeup!
Tizo3 – a mineral sunscreen with a non-greasy matte finish. It can also work as a primer under makeup for a flawless finish. ~$30
Dr. Jart Black Label Detox BB Balm – great for correcting uneven texture and skin tone, dark spots, redness and blemishes. SPF 25. ~$36
Revisions Intellishade SPF 45 Matte – this lightweight tinted moisturizer offers protection against UVA & UVB while reducing the appearance of pore size. ~$52
La Roche Posay Effaclar BB Blur – this BB absorbs oil while giving great coverage and ‘blurring’ the look of pores. It’s also good for absorbing humidity and sweat so you always look your best. SPF 20. ~$30
EltaMD Tinted Skincare UV Daily Broad-Spectrum SPF 40 – with hyaluronic acid to help moisturize and diminish lines, this lightweight moisturizer is fabulous alone or as a primer/protector under makeup. ~$29
Maybelline New York Dream Fresh BB Cream – say what you will, but Maybelline has been around for years! Their BB cream blurs imperfections while hydrating and smoothing uneven skin tone. The best part? It costs less than $8 and has an SPF of 30!
Until next time….
